Summary

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for design and layout of fluid process systems from a single piece of equipment such as a CIP skid to a single line or a complete plant. This position will be involved with projects from concept through process design, equipment sizing and specification, installation, and start-up and commissioning. The Senior Process Engineer must maintain effective communication to all team members including, but not limited to; contractors, consultants, vendors and the client at all times in an effort to coordinate all aspects of the project.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of batching, processing, packaging, CIP/COP, pasteurization, filtration, heat exchangers.
  • Understand design of steam, condensate, glycol, tower water, city water systems.
  • Knowledge of cooling and heating loads.
  • Identify proper pumps and valving component for each application.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and controls.
  • Develop mass balances
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), utility/equipment matrix, timelines, SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Develop performance specifications for process equipment.
  • Development of Request for Quotation (RFQ).
  • Identify process improvements, analyze opportunities, and implement action plans around process improvements.
  • Equipment vendor interactions.
  • Work within established engineering policies and procedures to ensure proper and effective treatment of customers.
  • Work with internal resources and project team members to obtain support and commitment and maximize project efficiency.
  • Travel to customer locations to maintain contact with clients, obtain project related information and respond to customer needs as required.
  • Requisition or purchase all essential parts and equipment.
  • Manage or perform Field personnel supervision for work performed at customers’ plant.

  • Overtime may be required as workload or project dictates. This may include nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Be physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, meetings and make site visits as required.
  • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but regularly requires travel to a client’s office, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location.
  • May be assigned to work at client’s office, facility, or site for extended period of time. Specific terms will be discussed prior to scheduling. When performing outside Sharpe Engineering’s office, appropriate safety training and equipment will be provided by Sharpe Engineering and/or the client as required.
  • While performing the duties of this position, you may be required to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Noise level will vary in each location; however, noise level is usually loud in production facilities and at industrial/construction sites.

Core Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4 Years) in Engineering
  • Experience: 8-10 Years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience), Supervisory experience preferred
  • Skills & Tools:
    • Knowledge of industry, market and Dairy 3A, USDA & FDA Guidelines
    • Internet Software and the Microsoft Office Platform: Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
    • Strong Problem-Solving Skills
    • Good Teamwork Skills: Listening, Approachable, Questioning, Helpful, Participating
    • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
    • Proficient in: AutoCAD with Isometric
    • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Professional, Respectful, Positive, Outgoing, Enthusiastic
    • Valid US Driver’s License
    • Possess or be able to obtain valid Passport (if necessary for travel outside of the US per project needs)
