Field Integration

Sharpe Engineering excels at getting the project properly installed and integrated. The measurement of a successful project is the functionality of the line when the project is completed. There are a variety of means in which we work to accomplish this, largely based on the specific plant and project. The following is an overview of resources that we have used to successfully complete projects. Again, please contact us with any specifics that you might have about how we might be able to assist in your integration efforts of any project.

Some of the industries that we have worked in include:

Cheese and Dariy Products
Snack Foods
Frozen Foods (Potatoes, etc.)
Vegetable (frozen and cooked)
Poultry products (patties/nuggets)
Bakeries
Sliced meats
Convenience Foods
Wide varieties of specialty food products/packages

Installation Management

As part of managing a project, Sharpe Engineering will provide the engineering support required to manage all contractors involved in the installation effort. This may include construction vendors, equipment vendors, and various contractors. The Planning phases of a project obviously attribute to the success of the installation, but there is no substitute for knowing how to run the job in the field.

We have managed smaller installation jobs with a few contractors on site that are done over a weekend or down day to large construction projects that require a several months of a engineering/project management presence at the plant. We would be glad to review any project that you may have and further discuss how we might assist this effort.

Installation

Sharpe Engineering has in-house resources to do mechanical installation projects and has done a wide variety of line and equipment installations in most any area of food processing that you can identify. Our people are capable and resourced to review the job, plan the required resources and complete installations on time, on budget. As a project orientated company, this is one of the core strengths of our company. We can list numerous projects and capabilities that we have, but we have found that there are so many unique areas of this aspect of a project that we would never well enough convey the information.

Here are a few thoughts that we believe differentiate Sharpe Engineering in this area:

We will provide as much of this aspect as you would like us to provide.

Sharpe Engineering is a project engineering company that provides services to facilitate projects. We are not strictly a mechanical contractor. Often, we provide a project manager to a job and use contractors that the project owner is comfortable with. In some cases of geography, it may make more sense to use local contractors that to bring our crews out. In any case, we have the experience in working with the contractors to ensure that they understand the scope of work and provide quality on time, on-budget work.

We really understand food plants and their operations.

When an installation is completed, the quality of the workmanship reflects the needs of your plant. We also understand the equipment and process involved and do not leave a job with a line that does not reach its potential of production, efficiency and product quality. That means dealing with catch points, product losses, transfers, etc. that are required to have the line function as it was intended. This may be the most critical part of a successful installation and too often goes unattended.

If we review a project with you, we can better define these areas regarding your specific operation or project and better convey the needs of the project. We would be pleased to have the opportunity to review an application with you and better define how our experiences and capabilities can support the needs of your plant and/or project.

Equipment Modifications and Field fabrication

We bring both engineering support and mechanical resources to a project through our in-house resources. Often in a project is the need to modify existing equipment to fully utilize it in the application. We have deep experience (both engineering and mechanical resources) modifying equipment to achieve this. We can test the equipment at our shop and simulate its production environment as best as possible to make sure its capabilities are known before it enters the plant.

Controls Integration

Again, Sharpe can manage and be responsible for the controls interface and integration of any project. We can also work with your in-house staff if you prefer. Again, this aspect of a project is defined early in the project, but the field integration needs to properly addressed. We can set up equipment at our shop if necessary and can help go through some of the control debugging for the system. We obviously also work through all of the issues at the plant when the project starts up. The bottom line is that depending on the project, we can supply the resources to get the job done properly.

Start-up support

This is an area that requires some discussion and understand depending on the specific plant and project. We understand what is required for start up and always work to best define how/if the project owner wants us involved. Some areas of specific note are:

Operator training for the line/equipment
Debugging and "punch list" items that are after the initial start up
Performance following up (perhaps months from the initial start up) to review or enhance the operation
Complete documentation for the project

Again, we can discuss these (and other) areas of a project should it be a consideration. We understand these areas and can support your plant/project as needed to help integrate and equipment and have successful line start-ups.

Summary

Sharpe Engineering works from concept planning through integration and check out in the best interests of the project owner. We do not "sell" any specific lines of equipment and work with you to complete the project successfully. We can provide turnkey proposals or just do some of the engineering or installation aspects of the project. Contact us at your convenience if we can review any projects (or currently problems) that you might have. We will do our best to help your plant succeed.
